This past weekend I had a wonderful time spending a few days camping and paddling on the beautiful Chassahowitzka River in Homosassa, Florida. I attended the Chassahowitzka River Adventure hosted by Kayaks and Boards. , an outfitter located in Fort Pierce, Florida. Barbara Cosden the owner /operator and her staff provided excellent tent and camp accommodations at the Chassahowitzka River Campground complete with exceptional food, first rate service, and a laid back friendly atmosphere. I was very impressed with how they thought of everything a person would need to make their adventure with them not only fun, but relaxed and comfortable. Aside from a few personal items, everything the paddle camper would want or need was onsite when I arrived.
I had never paddled the “Chaz” before but Barbara and her staff did a great job of guiding me on the river making sure that I visited all the points of interest. It was a marvelous trip filled with sensational natural beauty and one where I arrived as a stranger and left with new friends.
The Chassahowitzka River is a 5.5 mile spring fed tidal river located in Citrus County, near Hommosossa Florida. Its headwaters are the Chassahowitzka Spring which is a first magnitude spring along with other smaller tributary springs which can be found along the river. Lots of wildlife can be seen along the “Chaz”. We visited Blue Spring, The Crack, Baird Creek, Seven Sister Spring, Crab Creek Spring, Salt Creek, Potter Creek and Potter Creek Spring. It was a wonderful trip and one that if it is not on your paddle list, it should be.

The Chassahowitzka River is a great place to paddle. It is full of natural Florida beauty and is a river I intend to paddle again. If you have been there, let us know in the comment section. Thank you to Barbara Cosden and her staff at Kayaks and Boards for putting on a great event that did not disappoint.
