Paddling Around Hontoon Island/ Snake Creek and Blue Springs
Last week, I took a trip with the Space Coast Paddlers Club to Orange City where we paddled the “Hontoon Loop”. We launched on the St. Johns’ river and paddled around Hontoon Island to the Dead River. From there we floated Snake Creek to rejoin the the St. John’s near where Blue Springs empties into the river, then up Blue Springs to the park. This was the first time I had paddled into Blue Springs because in the past, it had always been closed due to manatees. For this trip, I paddled the Old Town Next solo canoe because I wanted to see how it handled more open waters and strong winds as compared to my touring kayak.
It was a great trip filled with natural Florida beauty and adventure. Here are some pictures from the trip.

It was a great day on the water and a trip I recommend to anyone who likes to paddle. If you have been here, let us know in the comments section. If you would like to join us on future trips, contact me.
